Installation of a gas boiler: the VAT rate increases on January 1st

From January 1, 2025, the VAT rate applied for the purchase and installation of a very high energy performance gas boiler (condensing) will no longer be 5.5%. The measure is the subject of a decree dating from December 4, the day before the resignation of the Barnier government. It was published on December 24 in the Official Journal, revealed the same day by Synasav (union which brings together climate engineering maintenance companies) on its website. The rate will thus be increased to 10%, indicates the newspaper Ouest , which Le Télégramme has confirmed with the Ministry of Ecological Transition. This increase will result in a few hundred euros more on the bill for the installation of a gas boiler, the amount of which is generally around 4,000 to 5,000 euros.

In the finance bill for 2025, it was even planned that the rate would rise to 20% but the government was censored and its state budget was abandoned.

« A steep cliff »

The VAT rate will remain at 5.5% for customers benefiting from a dated quote, accepted by both parties and having given rise to a deposit collected before January 1, 2025.

The reduced rate of 5.5% will also be preserved for boiler maintenance and repair services.

In its press release, Synasav says it “deplores this abrupt regulatory step imposed on the profession”. This decision follows those taken for several years: public aid is more oriented towards the installation of heat pumps, which offer a better record in terms of greenhouse gas emissions but for an installation cost three times more pupil.
