Will James Wan direct the live-action film based on The Last Ronin?

The producer and creator of horror sagas could direct the new film on the comic miniseries.

Earlier this year it was announced that Paramount Pictures was working on a new R-rated live action adaptation of the acclaimed comic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: L’Ultimo Ronin.

The project could have a highly acclaimed name at the helm. James Wandirector of Aquaman, was reportedly considered to direct the film. In addition to Aquaman, Wan is also well known for horror franchises such as The Conjuring, Saw and Insidious.

The film's screenplay was entrusted to Tyler Burton-Smith, co-writer of Child's Play, with Walter Hamadaformer DC Films boss, who will produce the project through his 18z production company.

The Last Ronin imagines a future in which only one member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still alive. The last turtle left he embarks on a mission to avenge the deaths of his brothers and Master Splinter, facing the death of Shredder and the authoritarian descendants of the Foot Clan.

In Italy, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are best known thanks to the 80s animated series and previous film adaptations. A darker version and forbidden to minors could shock fans of the franchise, despite the comic series being much darker than the screen versions.

Currently, a sequel to the recent animated film dedicated to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is in production while a video game about The Last Ronin was announced last year. Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo and Donatello make up the team of the most famous pizza-loving turtles in the world.
