The United States narrowly avoids it shutdownthat is, the paralysis of the federal budget. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 85 to 11, with support from Democrats and Republicans. The bill had also been approved by the House of Representatives and is now headed to the outgoing president Joe Bidenwhich will now proceed to signature.

Trump-Musk line on debt rejected

The approval of the bill in both houses of Congress put an end to a week of great tensions in Washington, during which the newly elected president Donald Trump and his ally Elon Musk tried to push the most intransigent Republicans to reject those they considered “gifts” to the Democrats.

A victory for the Democrats

At the center of the disputes was the raising of the debt ceiling. the compromise found by the two parties does not contain spending cuts or suspensions raising the federal debt ceilinga measure supported by the Trump-Musk duo.
