The death toll from the Magdeburg attack has risen to four, including a child. According to reports, 41 were seriously injured and 78 were slightly injured. The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will travel to Magdeburg today. The Minister of the Interior will be present together with Scholz, Faeser.

Saudi Arabia's secret services had warned German intelligence of the danger of Taleb Al Abdulmohsenthe Magdeburg attacker. This is what the Berlin media report, citing sources within Saudi intelligence. The report came after some violent posts against Islam published by Abdulmohsen on X, which have now disappeared from the social platform. The man, a 50-year-old doctor, reportedly wanted to punish Germany, the country where he has lived since 2006, “for its excessive Islamization.” The newspaper “Die Welt” reveals that Abdulmohsen was employed in the Bernburg penitentiary, the municipality where he lives, and that he took care of the mental health of drug-addicted prisoners. In recent years, the man even founded a forum, “wearesaudis.net”, for those like him who wanted to escape from their Muslim countries of origin because they considered themselves atheists. Following the attack, the police are searching various homes in Bernburg, the city where the attacker lives. According to what was reported by the German newspaper “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the attention of the investigators is an apartment building in Christianstrasse, where the man appears to have lived.

There are no Italian citizens among the confirmed victims in the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas markets, reports the Italian embassy in Berlin. “The police informed us that among the confirmed victims there are no Italians. We continue to monitor the situation of the injured but at the moment we have not had any reports among the hundreds of people we have contacted so far”, the embassy said.

“Maximum solidarity with the entire German people after the attack” said the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, before entering the North-South summit, taking place in Saariselka, Finnish Lapland. “It's not the first time this has happened around Christmas. It's a topic we've been dealing with for years. We must be careful about how we manage our policies and how we manage to guarantee the safety of our citizens. Therefore, this is also a matter that concerns the issue of safety,” added Meloni.
