THE EXPECTATIONS – «I’m still working on the final editing of Superman and working on a film is a really difficult process, but this one is very smooth, it’s coming together well. A bit like the trailer which is very faithful to what will be the atmosphere of the film, it really represents what we will see, but it was difficult to get there. In fact, I wanted the trailer to show the essence of the film, optimistic but with its dark moments. A great sci-fi film but at the same time incredibly grounded in how it deals with the characters. Something that fully captured the spirit of Superman – the Superman I loved, that I grew up with – but that was also new. Make a film about Sup for me it means, paradoxically, doing both: that it is new but at the same time traditional. You know that something new is needed to bring Superman to the cinema and I think that in the end, in a natural way, we succeeded.”

THE FILM – «The traditional aspects and innate qualities of Superman are all there, the hope, the honesty, the goodness, but told in a nice, wild and alternative way compared to what has been done so far. The most difficult thing with the film was managing to stabilize the science fiction component – such as the fragments of life on Krypton – with the human aspects such as the relationship between Clark and Lois, which I assure you will be something completely different from what has been shown so far ( and here the credit goes to Rachel who is truly an extraordinary actress) and obviously Lex Luthor. He’s intimidating, a real tough guy and has deep-rooted reasons for becoming this way (working with Nick was a real pleasure).”

THE IMAGES – «Yes, we tried to balance the classic spirit of the saga with something completely new. Superman is an important character. When I realized Guardians of the Galaxy they were almost completely unknown to the general public. There must have been about twelve people in the world who were pissed off because I hadn’t grasped the spirit of the original comic. Here we are talking about one of the most popular characters in the world and each of us has our own idea of what a Superman movie should/shouldn’t be. The goal was to create something that was as true, authentic, realistic, faithful as possible and that above all worked. The balancing of the components involved everything, not just the images, from writing the script to casting and special effects. We even made a giant robot to capture the spirit of the Silver Age.”

DC – «We have chosen Superman as the first film in the DC Universe because it is basically DC’s first superhero verse. We have Batman many times in the cinema, Wonder Woman has recently been reintroduced, but not Superman, not in recent years at least. Part of his legacy concerns, for example, his being alien. In the film we also talk about how this affects his life, where his powers come from. On the other hand, despite his birth on Krypton, he is an extremely human and vulnerable character Sup. Who he is, his choices, his soul. Bringing him back to the big screen and playing with him is something that Peter and I cared about a lot, a dream come true.”
