Khamenei: Israel is deluding itself by thinking it can besiege Hezbollah across Syria

Besieging Hezbollah across Syria to eliminate the Shiite party is nothing other than an Israeli “illusion”, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday, according to local media citing the Iranian Fars news agency.

On December 8, Syrian rebels ousted former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, cutting the arms supply line between Iran and Hezbollah that passes through Syria.

In his latest speech, the Shiite party’s secretary general, Naïm Kassem, admitted that “Hezbollah has lost the military supply route through Syria,” but added that it was “a small detail that can change over time.

“The Zionist entity is deluding itself by thinking that it can besiege Hezbollah across Syria to eliminate it, but the one who will really be eliminated is Israel,” Mr. Khamenei said during a meeting nun with Iranian women in Tehran. “The perception that America, the Zionist entity and some of their allies have of the end of the resistance is completely erroneous,” he added.

“The spirits of [l’ancien secrétaire général du Hezbollah] Hassan Nasrallah and former Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar are alive. Their martyrdom did not make them disappear from the scene, but only removed their physical presence,” he said.

On September 27, four days after the escalation of the war between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon, Hassan Nasrallah was killed during a violent Israeli airstrike which targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut. Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated by Israel in Tehran on July 31, while Yahya Sinouar was killed by the Israeli army in Gaza on October 16.

Ali Khamenei concluded his speech by assuring that “Gaza suffers daily attacks and offers martyrs, but it is unshakeable and resists, and Lebanon also resists”.
