Cyclocross: Tom Pidcock makes a big decision for his winter

Tom Pidcock has announced that he will not take part in the plows this season. The British rider prefers to skip cyclocross to “get used to a new environment”.

Tom Pidcock announced on Tuesday via his Instagram account that he would not race cyclocross this season. The British rider, whose transfer from the INEOS Grenadiers team to Q36.5 recently caused a stir, wishes “take time to get used to a new environment” and plans to return to the plowed fields next season.

I watched my first cross of the season on Sunday and it reminded me that I should probably officially announce that I won’t be racing cyclocross this season“, Pidcock wrote. “But my plan right now is to get back on the field next year!“.

After four seasons with INEOS Grenadiers, the departure of Tom Pidcock has raised many discussions. A versatile rider between road, plowed and mountain bike, the Briton has shone on numerous occasions but is slow to confirm in the premier discipline. He was cyclocross world champion in 2022 and mountainbike world champion in 2023, in addition to two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and , in mountainbike.

On the road, Tom Pidcock has scored five victories during his career, including a Tour de stage at Alpe d’Huez, the Amstel Gold Race and the Strade Bianche. However, his relationship with his team has deteriorated in recent months, with uncertainty over the role the rider had to play within the former best team in the peloton. The collective and individual results were not up to par in 2024, which precipitated Pidcock’s departure for other skies.

Last season, the native of Leeds competed in 8 cross-country races, and won the World Cup round in Namur.
