Equinor announces that it has made a discovery 17 kilometers west of the Troll field in the North Sea. The discovery is currently estimated at between 2 and 12 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Provisionally named Ringand, this discovery, estimated at between 0.3 and 2 million m³, contains both oil and gas. This is the second recent discovery in this area, underlines Equinor.
This discovery would probably not be commercially viable alone for isolated development.
‘It’s a small discovery, but located in an interesting area that we plan to explore further, given the significant existing infrastructure. If further discoveries are made, it could be relevant to combine them to ensure good resource utilization and optimal profitability,’ says Geir Sørtveit, Senior Vice President Exploration & Production West for the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) at Equinor.
