A 15-year-old teenager was placed under investigation on Monday in after admitting to having stabbed 15-year-old Inès to death to steal her mobile phone. The act, of extreme violence, led to the opening of an investigation for “violent theft resulting in death”, according to the prosecution.

Friday evening, Inès left her home in Isle, in Haute-, telling her loved ones that she was going to collect “documents for an internship”. Worried not to see her return, her family reported her disappearance to the police around 8:30 p.m. The investigations quickly led investigators to a SnapChat contact with whom Inès had been communicating for several days.

The two teenagers knew each other

When questioned, the teenager, unknown to the police and justice services, initially denied any involvement before admitting “having intended to steal his cell phone”. “He pretended to want to give her a gift from a friend”, a jewelry box, detailed Emilie Abrantes, public prosecutor in Limoges. The two teenagers, who knew each other and sometimes took the bus together, walked towards a woods this Friday evening. There, the young boy tried to snatch Inès' phone.

Faced with her resistance, he used a kitchen knife that he had taken to “intimidate” her and struck her several times, the prosecutor said. “Afraid that she would raise the alarm, he then hit her,” she added. Inès' body was found in the woods thanks to the suspect's instructions. He had around forty wounds. According to initial findings, the young girl had not been undressed. Investigators also recovered the victim’s jewelry box and phone. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
