T’as le look Ademola.
Winner of the Europa League in May against Bayer Leverkusen (3-0), where he was the only scorer of the evening and author of a superb start to the season with Atalanta Bergamo, Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman named best African player of the year 2024 by the Confederation of African Football this Monday evening. A year 2024 which saw him obtain the first title in the history of the Bergamasques but also reach the final of the Italian Cup against Juventus and the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid. In selection, the 27-year-old striker was also decisive in the journey of Super Eagles during the last CAN, notably scoring two goals in the round of 16 against Cameroon (2-0) and a goal in the quarter-final against Angola (1-0). The Nigerian player was chosen from a list of five nominees which included Achraf Hakimi, Simon Adringa, Serhou Guirassy and Ronwen Williams, ultimately named best goalkeeper and thus succeeding Victor Osimhen.
Barbra Banda and Emerse Faé also rewarded
The title of best player of the year was given to Zambian striker Barbra Banda, top scorer of the Olympic Games despite Zambia’s elimination in the group stages and 12th in the Golden Ball who plays in the NWSL side from Orlando. A revenge for the Copper Queens superstar whose journey has been strewn with pitfalls: “It was never easy for me to get to this point […] but I believe the best is yet to come”declared the player.
Ivorian coach Emerse Faé won the title of African coach of the year after achieving the feat of winning CAN 2024 with Ivory Coast.
Logical rewards.
