Saturday December 14, 2024, a 16-year-old teenager, incarcerated at the Orvault juvenile penitentiary (EPM), escaped by climbing a gutter. The escape took place around 4 p.m. while he was in the playground. The young man is still actively sought by the police.
A unique escape
“This is the first time this has happened here…” confides a specialist in the Nantes prison environment at Ouest-France. The Orvault EPM, opened in 2008, has a capacity of 60 places and incarcerates minors awaiting trial or already convicted. This incident calls into question the security measures of the establishment.
A marked legal past
The young escapee was arrested at the end of November, following a spectacular chase in the Bellevue district of Nantes. On the night of November 22 to 23, he drove a stolen Peugeot 406 and tried to escape the police by taking prohibited directions and running red lights. The intervention ended when the vehicle hit a low wall. Of the three occupants of the vehicle, only the driver, an Algerian national, was prosecuted.
Suspected of attempted murder
This young man was suspected of attempted murder of a person holding public authority. During the chase, a police officer felt threatened when the vehicle brushed against him. He then used his service weapon several times, without causing any injuries.
