Since the launch of the series Dune Prophecy on Max, one character particularly intrigued spectators: Desmond Hart. A soldier as enigmatic as he is dangerous, the latter had, until now, never revealed his true identity, which gave rise to numerous fan theories. Episode 5 then lifts the mystery by finally revealing the truth about this man with devastating power.
Warning, this article contains very important revelations about episode 5 of the Dune Prophecy series!
Soldier? Wizard? Fremen? Bene Gesserit? Prophet? Desmond Hart could have been all of this at the same time, as it proved so strange and surprising throughout the episodes of Dune Prophecy. However, unlike the other characters in the series, the character played by Travis Fimmel on screen does not exist in Brian Herbert’s book, The Community of Sisters, on which this new fiction is based. It is therefore impossible to decipher its past thanks to the writings of the son of the writer at the origin of the cycle Duneeven if everything seemed to link him to the Bene Gesserit. Fortunately, episode 5 finally puts an end to the agony of the fans and finally reveals to them the parentage of the formidable Bashar…
Desmond Hart, a powerful character with explosive genetics
While he gradually managed to gain the trust of Emperor Corrino during the first episodes, Desmond Hart ends up being named Bashar and thus finds himself at the head of the Sardaukars. A meteoric rise that he has always sought, allowing him to install his revenge plan piece by piece.
From the start, the latter effectively lets it be understood that he is leading a real vendetta against one or more people and that his decisions are motivated by a past trauma. And if until now the elements were thin enough to really understand what had happened to him and who he blamed, the finale of the fifth chapter answers many questions.
The episode ends with the discovery of the genetic heritage of Desmond Hartwhose blood Tula Harkonnen had tested at the request of her sister, Valya. Frustrated at not understanding the origins of this man and having no tangible evidence to combat him, the Reverend Mother actually hopes to obtain information by submitting her blood-stained handkerchief to a DNA test. DNA test whose results are far from what she expected! And, for good reason, Tula learns with amazement that Desmond Hart owns the song Atréides ET Harkonnen…. A shocking revelation, but ultimately not surprising, if we take into consideration the extent of his powers.
Who are Desmond Hart’s parents?
Although it is not clearly explained who Desmond Hart’s parents are, everything seems to indicate that they are Tula Harkonnen and her former fiancé, Orry Atreides. The astonishment on the face of the character played by Olivia Williams also confirms this hypothesis, proving that she knows exactly where this baby comes from.
This thus refers to theepisode 3which revealed the past of the Harkonnen sisters, and in particular that of Tula in the arms of Orry Atréides (Milo Callaghan). Very young at the time, the youngest had indeed fallen in love with a member of the rival clan and had enjoyed a lovely romance with him.
Totally conquered and madly in love, the young man then invited her into the woods to introduce her to his family, with the aim of marrying her. But, after a night of love full of sweetness and passion, Tula had chosen to remain faithful to her family, then betraying his lover by murdering his entire clan, including himself.
Only one boy survived the massacre: a teenager for whom Tula had taken a liking during her stay. A teenager who then grew up well and who we guess is the father of Kieran, the fencing master of House Corrino.
What happened to Desmond Hart in Dune Prophecy ?
Parallel to the scene with Tula, we find Desmond Hart and Natalya Corrino, who are about to start an affair. And as the emperor’s wife approaches the soldier dangerously, she asks him what the Bene Gesserit did to him. He then replies: “ The woman who gave birth to me, then exiled me to a planet of scavengers where I had to fight to barely find enough to survive…she was one of these sisters ».
This statement therefore suggests that Tula gave birth to this baby in the greatest of secrets, before abandoning him on a planet where he could not survive alone. Did she leave him as food for predators to make him disappear or was she hopeful that he would survive anyway? Episode 6 should tell us more. Whatever the case, Desmond Hart has serious revenge to take on his mother and seems ready to do anything to make her pay for all the suffering she inflicted on him.
What is Desmond Hart’s connection to Paul Atreides?
Although this revelation may have surprised many viewers of Dune Prophecythis connection ultimately seems quite logical. In the cycle Dune by Frank Herbert, most powerful characters are in fact Paul and his sister Alyawhich are the fruits of theunion of an Atreides with a Harkonnen. Therefore, we understand that this genetic combination produces something very special and that those who come from it are equipped with truly extraordinary abilities.
With Desmond Hart capable of burning his enemies alive internally, it was evident that he was among the most powerful figures in the Imperium. Added to this is also his close link with Shai-Hulud, which also refers to Paul Atreides, considered the chosen one, called Lisan-al-Gaib.
The rest of the series Dune Prophecy could therefore tell how the sisters of the Bene Gesserit decided to forge the the myth of the Kwisatz Haderachin order to be able to control a man of such power. Man, who although determined to end their reign, is doomed to die without having achieved his goal…
