The prefecture of Côte-d’Or announces in a press release published this Monday the organization of an administrative hunt intended to collect wild boars whose overpopulation causes damage and affects habitats and biodiversity. “Hunting them in a reasoned manner makes it possible to maintain a balance between the wild boar population and the presence of human activities” explains the prefecture.
An acceleration of damage since the start of the year
For several years and with an acceleration since the beginning of 2024, the damage has been regularly observed in the municipalities of Chenôve, Corcelles-les-Monts, Dijon and Marsannay-la-Côte. They reflect a high population of wild boars in the area. Also, in addition to the hunting carried out each year in part of these municipalities, the organization of an administrative hunt to collect wild boars has become necessary. Ordered by the prefect, it will help to avoid worsening damage and the wandering of wild boars in urban areas and roads. The administrative battle will take place Friday December 20, 2024 morning, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. under the authority of state services and louveterie lieutenants.
Access restrictions put in place during the hunt
As with every operation of this type, in order to avoid any incident, a security perimeter will be set up by the police to prevent access to the hunting area by any unauthorized person. Consequently, access to the Chenôve plateau will not be possible:
• the Gouville castle barrier (communes of Corcelles-les-Monts and Chenôve);
• the barrier of the place called La Bergerie (municipality of Dijon);
• Chemin de la Rente-Saint-Joseph (municipalities of Chenôve and Dijon);
• access to the Dijon horse racing circle from rue Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (municipalities of Chenôve and Dijon);
• the barrier near the broadcasting tower, rue Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (municipality of Dijon);
• the access road to the old leisure center (municipality of Chenôve);
• from the top of rue du Chapter (municipality of Chenôve);
• from the top of rue Paul Bert (municipality of Chenôve);
• the barrier at the top of rue Jean Cornu (municipality of Chenôve);
• the barrier at the top of Chemin des Vaches, above the recycling center (municipality of Marsannay-la-Côte).
Users of the platform are invited to postpone their activities (walking or cycling) across the entire sector concerned throughout the duration of the operation.
The prefecture specifies that the hunt will be held in compliance with the rules of hunting safety and use of firearms. The Chamber of Agriculture, representatives of wine growers, the Departmental Federation of Hunters and the municipalities of Chenôve, Corcelles-les-Monts, Dijon and Marsannay-la-Côte, the French Biodiversity Office, the National Gendarmerie and the Police national were involved in the preparation of this administrative campaign
