He was one of the faces of a movement that wanted nothing to do with it. During the “yellow vest” revolt, Christophe Chalençon found himself propelled among the leaders of the protest. This blacksmith from Vaucluse had first raised the voice of what was not heard, protesting against the rise in fuel prices which was strangling rural populations. He had even been invited to Matignon to discuss with French ministers.
The former leader of the movement died on Wednesday December 11, reported France Bleu. The blacksmith was 58 years old and suffering from cancer. He launched a list for the European elections, which only garnered a few votes.
Court convictions
After having carried the voice of the “yellow vests”, Christophe Chalençon had to face justice for comments and threats addressed to political leaders, in particular the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.
He also threatened a journalist with Provence who had written an article about him. In 2023, he was sentenced to eight months in prison. He was prosecuted for 27 offenses, always linked to his speeches during the citizen revolt.
