While the vast renovation and security project for the -Breil-Tende line still requires an entire year of interruption of rail traffic and the work on the Tende tunnel is not finished, the inhabitants of Roya are finally seeing the arrival good news a few days before the Christmas holidays.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region has just renewed its partnership with the Piedmont Region (voted during its plenary assembly) and has decided to strengthen the shuttle train service between Tende and Limone.

Indeed, since 2021, the two regions have concluded a cross-border agreement allowing an enhanced rail shuttle service between the two municipalities, provided by the transalpine operator Trenitalia.

This decision aims to maintain essential mobility for the inhabitants of Roya and those who come from Italy to work in Tende, as well as for visitors, who wish to go to the snowy slopes of the Italian ski resort during the winter 2024-2025.

Faced with the inaccessibility of the road infrastructures linking Tende and Limone in winter, largely impacted by storm Alex, the train now constitutes the only secure means of transport, especially since the work allowing the reopening of the Tende tunnel is not entirely complete. completed.

6 daily round trips until March 31, 2025

The cross-border agreement, initially concluded until December 31, 2024, is extended until December 31, 2026, in order to guarantee the realization of this exceptional rail service and its possible renewal.

With an increased service of 6 daily round trips during the winter period until March 31, 2025. That is 12 shuttles per day.

This system may be adapted taking into account the possible reopening of the Tende tunnel during the winter.

Free also for French school groups

An operation financed to the tune of 650,000 euros, shared equally between the two Regions.

The South Region has also decided to offer this service free of charge to school groups from French establishments, who go skiing in Limone.

This measure brings the regional financial commitment to 350,000 euros.
