Saturday December 14, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., emergency services were called for a roof fire in the chalet at the first aid station at the Champ du Feu ski resort. More than 70 firefighters and 25 vehicles, including four hoses, were involved.
This chalet welcomes rescuers and police during the winter season. It was completely destroyed by the flames.
« The weather conditions and the structure of the roof (zinc sheets with standing seams) made the extinguishing and stripping operations very difficult.“, specified the firefighters.
This chalet is the property of the European community of Alsace. Built in the 1970s on the site of an old cabin, it was completely renovated in 2022, for a total cost of 350,000 euros.
Two people were slightly injured: Civil Protection volunteers, present on the premises for the start of the season. Two other people, also on site, were unhurt.
Sunday December 15 at midday, the firefighters were still on site. Departmental road 414 has been partially cut and diverted.
