Since taking charge of Olympique Lyonnais, John Textor has found a major rival in Nasser Al-Khelaifi. This Saturday, L’Équipe revealed the content of the messages exchanged between the two leaders last summer, mainly focused on Ligue 1 TV rights and Textor’s criticism of Al-Khelaifi concerning its negative influence on Vincent Labrune, the president of the Professional Football League. One of the messages sent by the Parisian president read: “You know nothing about football; arguing with you is a waste of time. You will lose wherever you go.” This did not seem to faze Textor, however, who responded with humor on social media, celebrating Botafogo’s (one of his clubs) Copa Libertadores victory with a screenshot of Al-Khelaifi’s message held above his head, suggesting: “I know how to win titles, even if I don’t know anything about football.” As a reminder, John Textor is 59 years old, while Nasser Al-Khelaifi is 51.
PSG and Lyon are preparing to face each other this Sunday evening, marking the end of the 15th day of Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes. If both men are present at the stadium, we will look forward to their handshake.
