Israel will close its embassy in Dublin due to the Irish government’s “extreme anti-Israeli policies”, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on Sunday.

Israel’s ambassador in Dublin was recalled following Ireland’s decision in May to recognize Palestine as a sovereign and independent state, he said.

Last week, Dublin announced its support for legal action brought by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Jewish state being accused of genocide.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said Israel’s decision was deeply regrettable. “I totally reject the assertion that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland is pro-peace, pro-human rights and pro-international law,” he said in a message posted on the X network.

“Ireland wants a two-state solution and wants Israel and Palestine to live in peace and security. Ireland will always uphold human rights and international law,” he continued.
