The Israeli army spokesperson in Arabic, Avichi Adraaï, published this Saturday a set of videos documenting the conditions of detention and the torture inflicted on prisoners in Hamas jails in Gaza.
In the context of recent revelations about Syrian prisons, notably Sednaya prison, Adraaï draws a stark parallel between the methods of Hamas and those of the Assad regime.
The images, dating from 2023 and captured by security cameras at Al-Katiba prison in Gaza’s Al-Rimal neighborhood, show two members of Hamas’ internal security service, Mohammed Mohammed Sha’ban Al-Shobaki and Mahmoud Saber Mahmoud Abdel-Al, violently beating a prisoner.
Adraaï points out that Al-Katiba prison was already known for summary executions and systematic human rights violations. The videos expose, according to him, the “absolute cruelty” of the Hamas regime. “The Hamas jailers, whose brutality and malice have now been revealed, can no longer hide their crimes against the residents of the Gaza Strip,” says Adraai, calling these acts “merciless torture and human rights violations.” .
