The astonishment in the Trois-Cités district this morning. Nearly 70 firefighters intervened to put out a fire that occurred in the early morning in front of a building on Rue du Commerce, not far from Place de France. “We were called around 6 a.m.” confirms Alice David, number 2 at the Poitiers police station. “The fire spread across the facade of the building and damaged several apartments that overlooked the street“.
Around twenty local residents were evacuated.and supported by the town hall“in the school right next door, says the police commissioner.”Residents who will be able to start returning to certain homes, since the apartments are completely habitable and can be reintegrated from now on”.

Alice David also confirms the opening of an investigation in connection with the Poitiers public prosecutor’s office for damage of criminal origin. “We also have two trash cans in the street that caught fire around the same time, so we can assume that this was a voluntary act.“.
The human toll was five people poisoned by smoke, all taken to the university hospital. Five of them, two adults and three children, are in relative emergency. A 75-year-old woman, placed on respiratory assistance, presented a more serious condition. She was treated as an absolute emergency.
On a material level, five apartments were affected. A scooter was also destroyed by the flames.
