Miss France, Miss France… For many, this name is not just an acronym. These are childhood memories in front of the TV, watching young women representing different regions of France. These are evenings to dream about, listening to talk and watching beauty queens parade who all have the rage to win and a lot of grace.
But for the Misses, behind the scenes is sometimes less glamorous. In 2024, Eve Gilles was elected to represent France across the country. During this year of reign which will end on December 14, she rubbed shoulders with the greatest, paraded for the most chic designers, carried the Olympic flame, fought against school bullying and even became the ambassador mathematics. However, the young woman of 21 does not only have good memories of her reign.
Eve Gilles : “I think I'm having a fit, wait, hold my hand”
In Miss France, a year with Eve Gilles, a program dedicated to her and broadcast on December 14 on TF1, the young woman returned to the vagaries of the crown. Sometimes she was at her worst, and no one saw it. Once, the (internal) tornado occurred in the aisles of the agricultural show. There, as her duty requires, the French ambassador tasted all the good local products.
But between a slice of andouillette and a glass of local red wine, Eve Gilles almost fainted. The cameras filmed the moment. We hear the young woman say, in a voice of distress:
“I think I'm having a fit, wait, hold my hand. »
« JI put myself in front of her so that all the photographers don't see
»
Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France company, told TF1 about this moment. “In the middle of the signing, she calls me, and she says, 'Fred, it's not okay, I think I'm having a seizure!' » The man then acted directly with the aim of protecting his miss: “I stand in front of her precisely, so that all the photographers, the cameramen who are there and the public don't see that she is having a crisis in front of everyone. »
The crisis in question? It was linked to paroxysmal dyskinesia, a rare disease from which Eve Gilles suffers. If she wanted to keep this evil to herself during her reign, it is because, as she explained, it “defined her for a long time” when she was little. During this extraordinary year, she wanted to be
“Eve Gilles, me all alone”. Paroxysmal dyskinesia causes movements that we cannot control, carried out for 25 to 40 seconds. As the model explained, “a small attack won't hurt, but a big attack will: it can cause big cramps. » That day, Frédéric Gilbert shook his hand very tightly.
