Voters left him disappointed and frustrated by a narrow defeat against the National Rally (RN) candidate, René Lioret.
On July 7, Didier Paris (Renaissance) lost his seat as deputy of the 5e constituency during the second round of early legislative elections. Re-elected in 2022 after a first term started in 2017, the former sub-prefect of Beaune, losing by 40 votes, decided to file an appeal before the constitutional council.
But if the “irregularities” that he mentioned at the time are confirmed, he will not be able to stand again for the vote of the inhabitants of southern Côte-d’Or.
“The constitutional council has still not rendered a decision. I admitted my electoral failure, but I still think it was a bad choice. The RN’s stock in trade is worry and anxiety. They offer no credible alternative,” continues to ruminate the former investigating judge, who will return to judicial power, which he left in 1993 to begin a career as a senior civil servant, then, more recently, as an elected official. . The resignation of a member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM), on 1is October, opened the door for him and he rushed in with the support of the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet: “It was she who proposed my candidacy. She took a risk, because in the current context it would have been a political setback if I was not elected. But obviously, this has not been the subject of any debate,” boasts this experienced technician, who has long been at the heart of the legislative reactor of Emmanuel Macron’s majority, up to being rapporteur of the organic law on the functioning of justice on November 20, 2023.
This Tuesday, December 10, Didier Paris was interviewed at length, almost two hours, by the members of the Law Commission of the National Assembly, who voted in favor of his future integration within the CSM.
Out of 38 votes, 24 were favorable, 7 unfavorable, 7 blank or null. “It’s an exceptional result, only La France insoumise (LFI) and the communists voted against me. The RN abstained,” observes the happy candidate. A decree will soon be published to state his appointment within this constitutional body, which notably gives its opinion on the appointments concerning all public prosecutors, but also on the disciplinary sanctions against them. It guarantees the independence of the judicial authority.
