The first outing of HC Sierre under the orders of Dany Gélinas ended with a small victory against EHC Coire. Saturday evening, in Graben, the Valais team had to wait until the end of the extension to dispose of the newly promoted Grison (2-1 ap).
The day after the dismissal of their coach Mario Pouliot, the Reds and Yellows conceded the opener – signed Tim Muggli (33rd, 0-1) – shortly after mid-match.
However, they quickly knew how to react and stick to the brand. As often since the start of the championship, the Sierrois relied on their strong men: Joshua Lawrence (40th, 1-1), author of his 15th success of the exercise, benefited from good preparatory work from Samuel Asselin and Arnaud Montandon to equalize 15 seconds from the second siren. A goal scored with one more man on the ice.
It was in this same configuration that the residents of Graben went for a second point at the end of extra time. 59 seconds from the end of extra time, Samuel Asselin (65th, 2-1) this time turned into a scorer following an assist from captain Maxime Montandon.
This small success allows HC Sierre, still fifth in the Swiss League rankings with now 48 units, to come back to two lengths behind Visp (4th).
In the other matches of the day, the GCK Lions won in Olten (1-3), while Winterthur had to wait for penalties (4-3 tab) to dominate the red lantern, the Bellinzona Snakes.
