Death of Nadir near Nantes: three men sentenced to 22 years of criminal imprisonment, “nothing can restore my son”

This Saturday, December 14, in front of the -Atlantique assizes, the verdict came after a week of trial following the death of Nadir Marouf, 18, in the summer of 2020 in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire. Among the four accused, three of them, found guilty of violent robbery resulting in deathwere sentenced to 22 years of criminal imprisonment, two thirds of which were in prison (i.e. 14 years and eight months). The latter are also permanently banned from French territory.

The last accused, older, considered the “brains” of the flight during which Nadir died, was found guilty of complicity in crime, aggravated theft and concealment of criminals. He was sentenced to 15 years of criminal imprisonment. The four accused are also banned, for 15 years, from possessing a weapon.

“It won’t be able to give us back Nadir”

At the end of this last day of the trial, Nadir's mother, Nabila Bellhalfaoui, accompanied by her family, agreed to testify. For her, who had been waiting for this trial for more than four years, it was difficult to be satisfied, because “we can never be, because Nadir is gone. What kills me the most is knowing in this trial that Nadir suffered. It was a slow death. 22 years or 15 years of criminal imprisonment cannot restore Nadir to me.” For Nadir's father-in-law, “justice has done its job well”. But just like Nabila Belhalfaoui, the grief is too heavy to be satisfied: “Satisfied? We lost someone dear to us. We cannot be satisfied. But justice was there, and we were heard,” he confesses.
