price trends for Christmas 2025

Average prices in supermarkets and wine merchants

In 2025, bottles of national brand champagne will be offered in supermarkets at 38 euros on average for 75 cl. This increase, although moderate (+1 euro compared to 2024), represents an increase of 22 % compared to 2021. Private label brands, for their part, display an average price of 24 eurossuccessively since 2024 but increasing by 33 % over three years.

At wine merchants, prices vary more. Fans can find champagnes from small producers between 20 and 35 eurosoften organic and of excellent quality. The big houses offer bottles starting from 60 eurosintended more for special occasions.

The best champagnes for less than 20 euros

Despite the rise in prices, it remains possible to find excellent champagnes at affordable prices. According to the recent UFC-Que Choisir survey, two references particularly stand out for their value for money exceptional:

  • Pierre Courtois : balanced blend of grape varieties (65% meunier, 30% chardonnay, 5% pinot noir), this brut is offered at 16 euros.
  • Thiercelin Carte d’Or : with complex notes of pistachio, pear and strawberry, this cuvée obtains a score of 14/20 for a price of 18 euros.

These champagnes demonstrate that quality and small budgets can go hand in hand, particularly for amateurs looking for discoveries.

Why are prices increasing?

The rise in prices resulting from several structural factors such as rreduction in volumes produced. Champagne houses limit their production to preserve the rarity of the appellation. As weather conditions disrupt wine yields, they also accentuate constraints on supply. Finally, theincrease in production costs weighs heavily on the cost of champagne. Investments to adapt to new standards and preserve quality directly impact prices.

These constraints, combined with weaker international demand, nevertheless encourage certain distributors to offer promotions to sell off their stocks.

Comparison of major brands and alternatives

Large stores offer a wide range, but some big brands do not keep their promises. For example, prestigious champagnes such as Veuve Cliquot (41.95 euros) et Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial (40.90 euros) struggle to exceed the tasting average (11/20 and 10/20 respectively). Conversely, more modest options like Cuvée Première Chassenay d’Arce (26.40 euros) obtained an honorable score of 12/20.

For Christmas 2025, the choice of champagne requires combining price analysis and exploration of alternatives. Whether in supermarkets or in wine merchants, it is possible to enjoy quality vintages at reasonable prices, for sparkling and memorable moments without exceeding your budget.
