Former municipal technical center, the Dôme, located in the city center of () has been unoccupied since 2018. For the City, it is time to give a second life to this 2000m² place with great potential.

“It’s a large space which is very well located, in the heart of the city center near the town hall and the train station, with parking right next door. In reality, we have no other place as large and open to the public. »

Christophe Haudrechy, deputy delegate for the Environment and Ecological Transition, Mobility and Participatory Democracy

This is how the Dôme fits, in the same way as the former Charles de Gaulle crèche, into a transitional urban planning project. It’s about giving the place a temporary activity again while waiting for a longer-term project.

A citizen survey has therefore been launched in which each Ovillois can give their opinion until December 31. Several scenarios are proposed to them for the few months or years to come: a cinema roomin concert, an object repair workshop…

“We notice that there is a need cultural, artistic places or places linked to the ecological transition,” notes Christophe Haudrechy. Depending on residents’ responses and the City’s vision, a call for projects is expected to launch in January or February 2025.

A first scenario

A preliminary study carried out in partnership with the solidarity real estate and transitional and temporary urban planning cooperative Plateau Urbain has already made it possible to outline a first scenario occupancy for the Dome.

The garage, under the dome, could be transformed into a modular room of 700 m2 for performances and exhibitions. In reprography, it is possible to imagine a workshop of 230 m2 dedicated to the reuse and recycling of objects, open to the public, in partnership with Green’Houilles, an eco-solidarity association.

Finally, municipal workshops could be transformed into work and production spaces of 448 m2. A variant also proposes to set up in this space a café-space common over 108 m2.

We want a place that really serves the people of Ovillo, and imagined by the people of Ovillo. »

Security work

However, before any project, the Dome needs significant security work. Renovation of the vault, repair of windows, cleaning of floors and walls and securing of access will be necessary before opening its doors. “Once it is renovated, we can open it. For the moment, the area is sometimes used as a storage space for municipal cars, for example,” concludes the elected official. This work should begin as soon as start of 2025.
