Our article from October 22:
When we play in the Euroleague and lose on the floor of Chalon sur Saône, after three overtimes, it is obviously because we did not deserve the victory. Because on Sunday in Chalon sur Saône, if the ASVEL players were for a moment trailing by eight points, they also then had the same gap in their favor. Jackson won overtime and ASVEL finally lost at the end of the third.
Oh certainly, the Villeurbannais were deprived of four players including De Colo, but bringing him forward is for fun, because Tony Parker’s club has enough bench to run the machinery. Even two days after a Euroleague match… won at home.
In short, ASVEL just had to keep a low profile and avoid being talked about by filing a complaint for, she said, a refereeing fault with 8 seconds to go.
What is it about? We are therefore in the final seconds. Joffrey Lauvergne benefits from two free throws. One of the three referees gives him the ball for the international’s first shot. The bell rings for change. Lauvergne misses and asks to be given a second chance, since his coach asked for Shaquille Harrison to enter.
The photos from creusot-infos show that when Joffrey Lauvergne shoots his first free throw, he is imperturbable until his ball bounces on the circle. We also see that David Lighthy does not manifest anything. It’s only afterwards that he does it… In the chronology of things it’s important.
We don’t know if the error came from the table or the referee trio. But always let them accept change. And despite the protests of Pierric Poupet and his staff, the referees did not make Lauvergne shoot again. What followed was the equalizer signed by Jackson and therefore behind the three overtime periods, with the result that we know.
ASVEL therefore invokes a refereeing error, of which we do not know whether it comes from the referees or from the scorer’s table. But the fact remains that a complaint has been filed. Which will force the federal body to take a decision! First question: If Lauvergne had scored her first free throw, would she have filed a protest?
On the substantive subject, opinions differ… Some believe that Joffrey Lauvergne should have inherited an additional free throw. Others considered that from the moment the ball was given to him, the game had resumed… And that change was no longer possible. And very clearly, it seems that the international inherited the ball before the bell for the change.
The truth is therefore that ASVEL wants to play on a point of detail to try to convince the regulations committee that the match must be replayed. While after Jackson’s equalizer she had three overtimes to win it. Translation, ASVEL is a bad loser.
But behind this lies her extreme desire to finish in first place in the regular championship, in order to have the right to play the fifth match at home in the event of a final. That’s a lot of conditions, you’ll admit. But we repeat, it still makes you a bad loser.
SO ? Match to replay or not? It is in Paris that this will be decided.
