Rohan Dennis reached a settlement in the court case regarding the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskinsdied in 2023 after being knocked down. The former Australian runner is not held responsible for the death of Hoskinsbut he pleaded guilty to one of the charges, namely “creating a likelihood of harm”. He faces a prison sentence of several years. The case had already been postponed several times, but on Tuesday, Dennis had to appear again in court in Adelaide, Australia. On this occasion, the prosecutor dropped some other charges. Dennis is therefore not convicted of “dangerous driving resulting in death” nor for an aggravated charge of “driving without due care”. However, he admitted guilt regarding the charge of “creating a likelihood of harm”. The maximum penalty for the offense Dennis is found responsible is seven years in prison. His driver's license could also be suspended for five years. The exact sentence will be determined later.

“No intention to kill”, according to the prosecutor
As a reminder, Melissa Hoskins32 years old – who also had a past as a professional cyclist – was hit on Saturday December 30, 2023, a few meters from the family home, by a utility vehicle. She was taken in a critical condition to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Dennis was judged “reckless”, but he “did not intend to kill his wife”, according to the prosecutor. He is not held responsible for his death. “Mr. Dennis did not intend to harm his wife”said his lawyer Jane Abbey KC has ABC. “This accusation does not incriminate him for his responsibility in his death.”
