The latest episodes of Grotesqueriethe series between thriller and horror by Ryan Murphy, are now available on Disney +. Unfortunately, this finale does not provide the answers we would have liked and confuses our minds even more.

Ryan Murphy knows how to play with our nerves! The first season of Grotesquerie just ended on Disney+ and if you thought episode 10 would finally bring a conclusion to this mystery, you can go back to bed. This series between thriller and horror, which revives the first hours of glory ofAmerican Horror Storyturned our brains around. If many theories have been put forward by fans, including one which was confirmed with episode 7, the finale confuses our minds and pushes fans to come up with new hypotheses. Indeed, episode 7 changed the situation and revealed that everything that happened in fiction actually came from the nightmares of Lois (Niecy Nash-Betts), who was in a coma. After waking up, the detective tells her doctors and those around her about the terrible crimes she saw in her dreams. But as she reveals them, it doesn’t take long for them to come back to haunt her and take over.

What happened in the finale of Grotesquerie ?

In the last episode of season 1 of GrotesquerieLois tries to build a new life for herself. After she refuses the proposal to form a threesome with her ex-husband Marshall and his girlfriend Cherry Redd (Lesley Manville), the latter reveals to her that she knows about Marshall’s sleeping arrangements. He is then arrested by Megan (Micaela Diamond) and Gale (Brooke Smith) following allegations of sexual assault revealed by one of his students. After attempting to end his life, he is invited by Ed Laclan (Travis M Kelce) to join a group of men who oppose women being treated as equals. Dr. Charlie Mayhew (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Lois’s therapists are also there. For her part, Lois is afraid that this reality she is experiencing is ultimately not real. The doctor refutes this hypothesis and diagnoses him with Cotard syndrome, a rare brain disease where the patient thinks he is dead when he is not. Later, when Lois suggests that Grotesquerie must be working in medicine because the killer had access to her files, Dr. Witticomb turns the tables and claims that she is probably the murderer. She is then placed in a psychiatric ward. But Megan, her former colleague, comes to take her out of the establishment and asks for her help because another crime scene that Lois saw in her nightmares has come true. A scene which highlights the murder of Charlie, his doctor. So he can’t be the murderer, despite the fact that it was him in Lois’ nightmares. The woman who accused Marshall is also one of the victims. It’s then that Lois decides to stop running and must help find whoever is behind the murders once and for all, taking the series back to the beginning with its unsolved murder plotline. Because, yes, the series does not reveal the identity of Grotesquerie, the famous murderer.

How did the end of season 1 of Grotesquerie prepares a potential season 2

The finale of season 1 of Grotesquerie arranged the victims in a painting that resembles the Last Supper. A reconstruction reminiscent of the one that appeared in episode 2 of the series during Lois’s dreams when she was in a coma. Which seems to prove that his nightmares were in fact just premonitions. Or, the killer could have accessed the recordings of Lois’s dreams, and thus recreate them in life. Or, perhaps, Lois is even the murderer. So many questions that have no answers with this finale. But above all, we don’t know if these last episodes show reality, with Lois who is no longer in a coma, or if this is still Lois’s dreams. The end of season 1 of Grotesquerie therefore did not bring its heroine any closer to discovering the truth, and left viewers with many mysteries open for a season 2. If the latter has not yet been ordered, it is certain that it will have to bring more clarity!
