The new version of the cult Quebec comedy Two women in golddirected by Chloé Robichaud, will have its world premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival next month.

The film, which stars Laurence Leboeuf and Karine Gonthier-Hyndman, was selected in the official competition of the 41e edition of the event, which will take place in the city of Park City, Utah, from January 23 to February 2.

“Several of my favorite comedy-dramas have come through Sundance. I think of Little Miss Sunshine, 500 Days of Summer, The Kids Are All Right. We wanted to make a unifying film in this genre and Sundance is the perfect place to launch it. It’s really a great honor and I share it with the whole team,” reacted director Chloé Robichaud (Sarah prefers running, Happy days), in a press release issued Wednesday.

Written by Catherine Léger (Babysitter) from his own play, Two women in gold is a modern rereading of the film by Claude Fournier and Marie-José Raymond released in 1970.

Laurence Leboeuf and Karine Gonthier-Hyndman reprise the roles played by Louise Turcot and Monique Mercure in the original comedy. Sophie Nélisse, Félix Moati, Mani Soleymanlou and Juliette Gariépy are also part of the cast.

Two women in gold will be released in Quebec on May 30.
