Algeria Football– USM Algiers (USMA) today formalized the departure of Senegalese striker Sékou Gassama Cissokho, thus ending a collaboration of less than six months. Arriving last July with the hope of strengthening the attack of the Rouge et Noir, Gassama failed to establish himself in the squad and left the club after playing only eight matches, during which he scored a single goal.
The decision to terminate the contract was taken amicably, following an agreement between the president of USM Alger, Athmane Sehbane, and the player’s representative, who is none other than his father. This departure takes place without financial compensation for the Algerian club, which is a relief for its finances. The Senegalese player, now free from any commitment, played his last match under the colors of USMA last Sunday in Dakar.
This departure leaves a void in the USM Alger attack, especially since the club must also deal with the prolonged absence of Ghilas Guenaoui. These two departures require an offensive reorganization for the coming months, and the club’s management is already working behind the scenes to strengthen itself during the winter transfer window. Among the avenues considered, the name of Bouzouk, Raja Casablanca player, comes up insistently in the discussions.
On a sporting level, the USMA remains focused on its continental objectives. Indeed, the club will represent Algeria this Sunday in a highly anticipated clash against ASEC Mimosas, as part of the third day of the group stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup. Nabil Maâloul’s men, who currently occupy first place in Group C alongside their Ivorian opponent, will be keen to preserve their position and continue their positive momentum.
