While the Swedish royal family crowns the world’s best physicists, chemists, writers and doctors every year, tradition dictates that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by Norway during a ceremony which also takes place on December 10 , the day of the death of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite who wanted to reward those who “contributed to the rapprochement of peoples, to the suppression or reduction of standing armies, to the assembly and propagation of progress for peace “.
In 2024, it is the Japanese organization Nihon gensuibaku higaisha dantai kyōgi-kai (abbreviated as Nihon Hidankyo), which fights against nuclear armament, which has been crowned. After the announcement of this award on October 12, the winners were able to collect their prize during a ceremony organized on Tuesday at Oslo town hall. For the occasion, King Harald V and Queen Sonja made the trip, as did the heir couple, Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit of Norway.

To greet the recipients, Queen Sonja wore a turquoise Pucci suit with a matching hat and black Peter Kaiser shoes. As for Princess Mette-Marit, she offered herself a great first by appearing dressed in pants, she who has always favored dresses for this type of event. Over this unusual outfit, Prince Haakon’s wife wore a long Valentino embroidered coat, already worn twice in 2014 and 2015.

The two couples thus attended the ceremony from the front row, applauding the survivors of the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The ranks of the family, however, seemed very sparse, with King Harald only able to count on the support of his eldest son to support him. The Norwegians have indeed been going through a succession of scandals since the summer, notably forcing the eldest daughter of the royal couple, Princess Märtha Louise, to step aside.
The latter in fact united on August 31 with the American Durek Verrett, a self-proclaimed shaman known for his conspiratorial comments and his taste for alternative medicine. Words and practices which led the princess to renounce her functions so that scandals would not affect the royal family. Since October, Durek Verrett has also been accused of sexual assault by a former “patient”.

But the biggest scandal experienced by the royal family directly impacts Princess Mette-Marit. The latter is in fact confronted with the legal troubles of her eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, born from a relationship prior to her marriage to Prince Haakon. The 27-year-old young man is in fact accused of domestic violence by three of his ex-partners and is also suspected of three rapes. Facts which led to him being placed in pre-trial detention at the end of November before being released a week later. Having left for rehab at the beginning of December, he is said to have already emerged, also resuming contact with his victims and violating his restriction order.
