Morgane, a 13-year-old schoolgirl who disappeared on November 25 in Pabu (Côtes-d’Armor) was found alive Tuesday morning in a young workers’ home in Coutances (Manche), announced this Tuesday, the public prosecutor of Saint -Brieuc, Nicolas Heitz.
A 21-year-old man who hosted the teenager was taken into custody. Prolonged police custody this Wednesday when the public prosecutor gave a press conference to discuss the case in detail.
A request for detention
The prosecutor will request the placement in pre-trial detention of the 21-year-old individual arrested Tuesday. He is presumed innocent but he is accused of similar acts dating from April. His pre-trial detention would allow “not to put pressure on Morgane” and “to avoid a further recurrence of such acts”.
The door opened from the inside
In his statements, the public prosecutor specified that the individual whose police custody was extended said “not to detain her”. But she would have “refused, saying she felt comfortable with him”. The young man indicated that “the door could be opened from the inside and said that he had shown Morgane the technique”. “Checks carried out in the individual’s room showed that the door could be opened from the inside like in a hotel room. Morgane said she did not know how to unlock this door.”
A man offered to take care of Morgane
Visibly stressed by the situation, the man arrested received a message in the group mixing minors and adults in which he had met Morgane. A man offered to take care of Morgane. But, arriving near Bordeaux, on the night of December 7 to 8, Morgane and this man were turned away by the young man’s mother who offered to look after Morgane because “they had arrived too late at her house”. “They then went back to Coutance”, in Manche.
An emergency social assessment
“Morgan is hospitalized and safe” assured the prosecutor who launched an investigation by social services to carry out “an emergency assessment of the situation and allow for possible protective measures”.
A single entry in the criminal record
The man arrested has always denied having had intimate and sexual relations with Morgane, who confirms these remarks. He only has one entry on his record for speeding. He is not on the sex offender register. He explains having been the victim of harassment and having made several suicide attempts.
An investigation concerning the 21-year-old man in Beauvais
The 21-year-old individual, native of Rennes, placed in police custody, was the subject of an investigation for kidnapping a 14-year-old minor by the Beauvais public prosecutor’s office. In his absence, he could not be tried for these facts.
“No lesion on Morgane”
There are no lesions on Morgane and no gynecological lesions. “At this stage, nothing shows that there were intimate relations between Morgane and the person arrested.” Examinations will be carried out to confirm these initial findings.
Morgane, however, indicated that she had received a blow to the head from this man after an argument “because he did not take care of her and she was hungry”. The prosecutor, however, clarified that she was not injured.
“She had developed an important network on applications”
The public prosecutor indicated that Morgane used Snapchat and other applications a lot. She indicated that she had “established contact with adults and she had developed a significant network on these applications, which caused tensions with her family”.
Located at the beginning of the week
Morgane was able to be “located at the beginning of the week, in Coutances” and was found Tuesday morning by the gendarmes from the Rennes research section. “She was in a hostel for young workers in this city. The person who took her in, a 21-year-old from Rennes.”
