Demolition work has begun on Kibbutz Kfar Aza – one of the Gaza border communities hardest hit during the Hamas pogrom on October 7, 2023.

Ninety-seven buildings will be destroyed but no decision has yet been made concerning 48 buildings in the “Young Generation” district.

Of the 37 residents of this neighborhood, 11 were murdered and seven were kidnapped and taken hostage in the Gaza Strip. In total, out of the thousand inhabitants of Kfar Aza, 62 lost their lives during the massacre perpetrated by terrorists in southern Israel.

By October 7, more than 1,200 people had been killed – the majority civilians – and 251 had been kidnapped and taken captive within the coastal enclave.

As part of the rehabilitation of Kfar Aza, 400 buildings will be renovated (360 residential residences and 40 public buildings) and damaged infrastructure will be repaired.

The Tekuma Administration, which is responsible for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Gaza border area, will allocate 200 million shekels to Kfar Aza for this work. They plan to build a new neighborhood for the younger generation in another location on the kibbutz, as well as a new residential neighborhood.

The kibbutz – which is currently located in temporary premises located within Kibbutz Ruhama – has entered into a contract with the management company A. Epstein & Sons (1995) Ltd.
