The French are selling more and more of their gold. A trend which has resulted in a surge in the price of the metal in recent months, reaching 80,000 euros per kilo in December. And politics has a role in that.
In this auction, everyone comes to find the rare pearl. Some come for the first time, others are regulars. “I invest, I buy and when I don’t have money, I sell a little”confides a saleswoman who is used to the place. Like her, more and more French people are parting with their jewelry for a sum of money.
A trend which can be explained by a surge in the price of gold. 80,000 euros in December, eight times more than in 2004. “At the moment we are on favorable courses” recalls a manager of a gold buying and selling agency. He adds, “following the dissolution of the government, we have more and more requests to realize projects”. Investment in gold could expand in France in view of the government impasse which has lasted for months.
