THE ASSESSMENT GROWS IN UKRAINE
The death toll from the Russian attack which destroyed a private clinic in Zaporizhia rises to six. Rescuers continue their work this morning to try to find survivors under the rubble of a building destroyed in the strike.
“Up to five people could be trapped under the rubble. Police, rescue workers, volunteers and relevant municipal services continue to work on site,” said the Interior Ministry press release.
Twenty-two other people were injured in the attack, including a five-year-old girl, according to the ministry, which published a photo of an ambulance parked next to a destroyed building.
DAMAGE TO RUSSIAN COMPANIES
Two industrial companies were damaged last night by Ukrainian drones and missiles. “Last night, the town of Taganrog, in the Rostov region, suffered a missile attack. An industrial enterprise was damaged,” said the governor of the region, Yuri Sliousar on Telegram. “A boiler room was damaged on Tsiolkovsky Street. Currently, there is no heating in 27 buildings,” said the mayor of Taganrog, Svetlana Kamboulova on Telegram.
Fourteen Ukrainian drones were also intercepted and destroyed over the Bryansk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a press release.
CONFLICT IS A “PRIORITY” FOR TRUMP
For Donald Trump, the priority is to “resolve the Ukraine problem with Russia”, among the multiple crises underway in the world. “These two countries are suffering incredible human losses. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are killed,” said the president-elect in an interview published by Paris Match.
A “BRUTAL ATTACK” ON ZAPORIJIA
The Ukrainian president condemned the “brutal” attack by Russian forces on Zaporizhia. In a video posted on his social networks, Volodymyr Zelensky once again urged the West to provide more anti-aircraft defense systems to Ukraine, in particular American Patriot batteries of which he said he needed “ten to twelve” units. “We do not have enough systems to protect our country against Russian missiles. But our partners have these systems,” he argued.
4 DEAD IN UKRAINE
A Russian missile “destroyed” a private clinic in the town of Zaporizhia, killing at least four people and injuring 19, according to authorities. The attack took place early yesterday afternoon, affecting “civilian infrastructure” in the city center, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said on Telegram.
According to police reports, a five-year-old child was killed and other victims could still be found under the rubble.
A “POWERFUL ACT OF JUSTICE”
Volodymyr Zelensky said he was “deeply grateful” for “this essential support” from the United States. For the Ukrainian president, the release of 20 billion dollars represents “a powerful act of justice”. “The G7 holds the aggressor responsible. This sends a clear and resolute message.”
“Supporting Ukraine is not just about standing with a nation. It is about ensuring security in Europe and teaching a powerful lesson to any potential aggressor: accountability for acts of war is inevitable.” , he added on his social networks.
RUSSIAN ASSETS
Washington announced last night the release of 20 billion dollars for Ukraine which will be reimbursed by interest on Russian assets frozen due to sanctions. “The United States has followed through on its October commitment by transferring these funds” to the World Bank fund dedicated to Ukraine, “through which they will be made available to Ukraine,” the US Treasury Department said in a statement.
“These funds – financed by windfall revenues from Russia's fixed assets – will provide Ukraine with essential support.”
