« As of January 1, the price of TER Fluo subscriptions will increase by 3%. » This is the email that users received from the Grand Est Region and SNCF Voyageurs, Wednesday November 27, 2024.
Thibaud Philipps, vice-president of the Grand Est Region and transport delegate, confirms this increase which will concern occasional tickets and the subscriptions of all lines : “This is a general increase across the entire TER Grand Est perimeter. »
This increase will subject to a vote by elected officialsduring the plenary session, scheduled for December 12 and 13, according to the Grand Est Region and will follow increases that have already occurred in 2023 and 2024.
“Users must accept without flinching”
On social networks, users express their dissatisfaction: “We see the increases, but not the improvements”, “ we are really taken for cash cows “, we can read.
Traveling on the TER Nancy-Metz-Luxembourg line, a cross-border worker learned the news on Wednesday November 27, at the same time as everyone else: “The politicians kept the secret well. By force, it's a little incomprehensiblebecause the service is reduced, problems abound. The new trains are still not suitable for running on the Sillon, yet the prices are still increasing. No communication with the Region, users must accept without flinching. We endure, that’s all. »
The user also mentions the UFC Que Choisir study which had singled out the Grand Est Region for the lack of reliability of the TER (for its part, the Region pointed out an achievement involving “imprecisions” which are likely to constitute “an incriminating document”).
Costs that increase
Why such an increase? “We regularly increasing costs», replies Thibaud Philipps. The elected official mentions an increase of 8% in the tolls requested by SNCF Réseaux to run the trains or even an increase of 6% in the tolls of Gares et Connexions.
“We have a certain number of charges transmitted to us by the SNCF. Today, we are on an overall increase, compared to last year, of 30 million euros,” continues the elected official.
Share the increase between users and the community
If charges increase, prices must increase. The idea is to pass on part of the requested increases to the user, but in a reasonable proportion according to the elected official.
“With the 3% increase, this allows us to have 6.5 million euros in additional revenue. This means that 23.5 million euros of the total cost of additional charges is covered by the community. Otherwise, prices would have had to be increased by 16%,” explains Thibaud Philipps.
A 48-hour pass, unlimited, in the pipeline
In addition to the prices which will evolve in 2025are there any other changes or noveltiesare expected on subscriptions?
As a family or group, a train trip can quickly get expensive: “We are working on a discovery passto facilitate the discovery of the region, particularly for families. » It would be a 48 hour passunlimited, which would allow travel on all lines in the region.
For the moment, it is impossible to give an idea of the price. This is currently being refined to make itan adapted group rate: “The goal is for it to be very attractive compared to purchasing several tickets,” underlines Thibaud Philipps.
This project is still being developed for a vote scheduled for the month ofFEBRUARY.
