The cold set in, and the consequences on gas reserves in Europe were quickly felt. Because when temperatures drop, we consume more energy. Natural gas reserves in Europe (there are none in Switzerland) were still well stocked a month ago, at a level higher than the average of the last five years. But since then, they have been decreasing. Now below this famous five-year average, according to the Gas Infrastructure Europe association.

Prices are on average at their highest level in a year. A megawatt hour of gas is currently around 50 euros, and it could rise to 70 euros, according to Bank of America. Before the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, it was worth less than 20 euros.
