Spectators of the second semi-final of theOpen the tennis de Caen (Calvados), this Tuesday, December 10, 2024, opposing Richard Gasquet to Ugo Humbert, attended an improbable scene. A scene which in any case amused a good number of people present in the full stands of the Palais des sports.
Players and referee forced to intervene
Just six minutes after the first exchanges, and the third game of the match, Ugo Humbert delivered a forehand which ended up in the net. Issue : the French number one literally broke the net!
Both players approached the net to try to repair it. The match referee had to take out his tape measure to measure the repairs and check that the net was back to standard.
In the end, the clash of generations was interrupted for about ten minutesallowing both players to recover for a few moments before resuming a thrilling match! The winner of this part will challenge the Briton Cameron Norrie, winner of Alexandre Muller in the first semi-final.
