Alongside its foie gras, Maison Delpeyrat sells a small pot of balsamic vinegar cream €4.50 for 60 mL, or… €56.25 per liter. A hell of a price when you think that in the oils and vinegars aisle, Foodwatch found a balsamic vinegar cream with a similar composition, organic and without controversial additives, almost twice less expensive per kilo. Obviously, it’s all about location!

Bonus: the product contains a controversial health additive, coloring E150d, ammonium sulfite caramel, which may contain a compound that may be carcinogenic. We will appreciate the consistency of brands in inventing a new “special foie gras” product every year, all to sell it at a stratospheric price.

This price scam is a holiday classic that we could do without. Small pots of fig or onion jam, sea salt or lemon: placed next to the foie gras or salmon, these products often cost much more per kilo or per liter than the rest of the year or in their usual aisle. Behind the time savings offered to consumers, manufacturers and distributors count on us to buy impulsively, with nice profits for their apple!

Casserole d’Or 2024: I vote for this product!
