Avengers Doomsday is the next installment in the superheroic saga from Marvel Studios. The opportunity for the firm to bring back the former actors of the franchise. After Robert Downey Jr, it is Chris Evans, aka Captain America, who would make his comeback. However, its role could be very different.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is adrift, Marvel Studios is trying everything to attract fans again, even if it means bringing back old actors. The specialized site The Wrap thus states that Chris Evans, aka Captain America, would be in the film.
This is not an official announcement, but from information delivered by journalist Umberto Gonzalez, who has been navigating the world of entertainment for many years now. According to him, Evans would be in the casting of Avengers Doomsday, scheduled for 2026, but his role has not yet been cast.
Captain America returning to the MCU?
While Evans is best known for his role as Captain America, he’s not necessarily going to reprise it in Doomsday, and this for three reasons. The first is that the title of Captain America is now taken by Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). He has worn the star-spangled shield since Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will fully assume it in Captain America Brave New World. Bringing Steve Rogers back is a bit of an eclipse of this character.

The second is the multiverse, aka the perfect story excuse for all the eccentricities and character changes. For example, Robert Downey Jr has already been announced for the casting, not as Tony Stark, but as Dr Doom, the big villain of the film. In addition, (SPOILER IN THE NEXT LINES) Evans has already made his return to the MCU, more precisely in Deadpool & Wolverine. He didn’t play Steve Rogers, but Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. A role he had already taken on in the first Fantastic Four films in the 2000s.
The third is that the return of Captain America could “spoil” the end of Endgame, which marked a satisfying conclusion for the character. But with Marvel, we can’t be sure of anything.
Anyway, Avengers Doomsday will be under the sign of great returns. Since in addition to Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, he will sign the return to business of the Russo brothers at the helm of Marvel. Release planned for 2026.
