The European continent is based on a complex energy balance, where natural gas plays a crucial strategic role. At the heart of this geopolitical dynamic, theAlgeria maintains its position as an essential energy partner for Spain, confirming its status as main supplier despite a changing international context.

The latest energy sector data reveals significant trends in gas supply flows. In October, net imports of natural gas to Spain reached 23,716 Gigawatt hours (GWh), marking a decrease of 13.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. This decline is part of a constantly evolving energy landscape.

Algeria remains the dominant supplier, delivering 13,754 GWh, representing 53.1% of total Spanish imports. Despite a notable reduction in its volumes, the North African country retains a central role in Iberian energy supply. Russia and the United States complete the podium of the main suppliers, with 4,169 GWh (16.1%) and 2,080 GWh (8.0%) respectively.

An in-depth analysis of import modes reveals interesting dynamics. Imports via gas pipelines recorded an increase of 35.6%, while imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) experienced a decline of 31.5%. These variations reflect strategic adaptations of energy infrastructure and supply strategies.

The resilience of the energy relationship between Algeria and Spain shines through these figures. Despite global market fluctuations and geopolitical tensions, the energy partnership remains strong, illustrating the importance of gas connections between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
