The Canadian and the Ducks engaged in a frenzied duel which ended in a 3-2 shootout victory for the Montreal team on Monday evening at the Bell Centre.

Patrik Laine and Cole Caufield hit the target during the final stage of this game, while goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault gave nothing to the two shooters who appeared in front of him.

The Habs were the first team to sign up for the brand. In the first period, Laine took advantage of a power play to score the third time in four games since his return from injury.

Named first star of the match, let’s say that the Finn knows how to make friends.

Lane Hutson and Nick Suzuki provided assists on Laine’s goal. It was both their 19th assist of the current campaign.

Troy Terry leveled the score before the end of the first period. It was also this Ducks player who scored the second for his team. A turnaround from Kirby Dach at the start of the second period allowed him to put the visitors in front.

Dach, however, recovered 11 seconds later by scoring his second goal of the season. It was his first success since October 26.

Elsewhere, Jake Evans appeared to be injured during overtime. He returned to the bench writhing in pain after making a shot.

Montembeault made 27 saves in front of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge net. At the other end of the ice, Lukas Dostal stopped 19 pucks. The Ducks’ masked man was particularly good during the second period. He notably frustrated several CH players who had chances to appear alone in front of him during this period.

The Canadian will return to action Thursday evening, as part of a visit by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Quebec metropolis.
