It was only a few months ago… Wednesday August 7, 2024, Patrice Laffont died at the age of 84 at his home in Oppède, in Vaucluse. If he seemed healthy, the former host died of a heart attack. Two years earlier, in the Parents First podcast, he had indicated that he would not like to suddenly leave a heart attack.
“I would like to experience my death, to exchange with my loved ones, to perhaps say what I have not said”he clarified.
Monday December 9, 2024, Jean-Pierre Castaldi was invited on the set of the show Chez Jordan, on C8. When Jordan de Luxe asked him about his health, the former host responded cautiously. “You know, I never say that again because my friend Patrice Laffont,
I saw him two weeks before his death. He was coming out of the hospital, he had done his tests, everything was fine. So we don’t say anything. My tests are obviously fine, but…”he slipped before stopping there.
Jean-Pierre Castaldi: “We got a lot closer”
Later in the show, it was while talking about their friendship that Benjamin Castaldi’s father declared: “We filmed something in Japan. We spent three weeks filming in Japan (…) And we got a lot closer. But historically, we played pétanque tournaments together… With Jean-Jacques Bourdin, we toured the personalities (…) And I knew Laffont as a young actor when he played in the films of… (laughs). He didn’t stay an actor for very long. I knew him back then!”.
If they continued to see each other, because they “still gravitated in the same world“Jean-Pierre Castaldi did not go to his funeral. “I played in the theater (…) Not only was I friends with him, but his ex-wife who became his wife again at the end of her life, she was my road manager on my tour”he declared before assuring that his friend had no money worries at the end of his life. “He never earned enough!”he however clarified.
Jean-Pierre Castaldi: “We decided to see each other at the start of the school year”
Saturday September 7, 2024, the former television star had already spoken about this subject on the set of Face à Hanouna.
“We decided to meet at the start of the school year for dinner together. And indeed, he looked very, very fit“he assured Cyril Hanouna and his gang of columnists.
Speaking about the filming of Better Late Than Never, Jean-Pierre Castaldi remembered with emotion: “I must say that, for three weeks, we were treated to a panel of Patrice Laffont at his funniest and worst (…) I think I saw him happyvery happy, for three weeks”.
