The Google Pixel 8 camera phone, which we have tested and approved, remains an excellent model despite the recent release of the Pixel 9. What makes us recommend it even more is its price which goes from 799 euros to 499 euros in its 128 GB version on Fnac and Darty.
A year after its release, the Google Pixel 8 remains a 5G phone with a really interesting solid record. Especially since Google has announced 7 years of guaranteed updates, so finding it with a 300 euro discount at the moment, where the Pixel 9 is sold for 899 euros minimum, it’s a real good deal.
Why is the Google Pixel 8 still recommendable?
- Because it offers a crazy Pixel Experience
- Because you benefit from 7 years of updates and spare parts
- The integration of AI at many levels
Launched at 799 euros in its 128 GB version, the Google Pixel 8 is currently only 499 euros at Fnac and Darty.
At the time of writing, for these two brands, delivery is estimated for before Christmas.

Cute on the outside, tough on the inside
The Pixels follow one another and, aesthetically, are similar. Thus, the Google Pixel 8 uses the recipe of the Google Pixel 7, with a photo block embedded in a bar which takes up the entire width and which means that once placed on a table, it is not completely flat. A few small changes, however, including more rounded corners, which give it a more “cute” appearance, where the Pixel 7 is more square.
It measures 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm for 187 grams, which is really good and allows you to hold it well in your hand, and not feel any discomfort when it is in your pocket. You will find Google’s Pixel Experience interface for advanced customization options. This is a big plus of this smartphone: you leave your finger pressed on the home screen and you can change everything: icons, home image, lock image, colors and even the font .
You can even generate wallpapers using AI. Simply give instructions to the AI and ask it everything you want, with what colors, to generate a unique background image to display on your screen. There are plenty of other uses for AI, particularly in photography, where you can erase elements of the decor with a swipe of your finger.
When the Google Pixel 8 starts taking photos, things move
To stay in the picture, the Google Pixel 8 is equipped with three sensors: a 50 Mpx wide-angle, a 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle and a 10.5 Mpx selfie sensor. The quality is there, especially since it is compatible with HDR, and there is no doubt: it takes good photos. There’s not much to complain about in that regard, except the night mode which is a tad less good.
The AI also shows up here with fun functions such as being able to choose and replace faces from one photo to another, useful if you take bursts of photos and want to create the perfect photo , because grandma closes her eyes on one, uncle sneezes on the other… Hop, a little AI and you have a photo on which everyone smiles.
Finally, for autonomy, you have honest performance, but nothing more. The Samsung Galaxy S23 does better, but you will have enough to last you for a good day. It’s a shame that the so-called fast charge caps at 30W, because you have to wait more than an hour to fully charge it.
