    Denis Villeneuve was back on stage to conclude the Gala Québec Cinéma by awarding the most coveted prize of the evening, the one he himself won twice with Maelstrom et Fires. The Iris for Best Film was awarded to Humanist vampire seeking consenting suicidecompleting a golden hat-trick on Sunday evening with the Best Debut Film and Best Screenplay awards received earlier.

    At the end of the evening, Louis-José Houde came to present the Michel-Côté Prize, awarded through a public vote to one of the five films which had the most success at the box office in 2024. The prize was awarded to Our sisters-in-law by René Richard Cyr, who was preferred to 1995, Ru, Simple like Sylvain et Testament.

    Comedian Mona De , host of the Gala Artisans de Québec Cinéma last Wednesday, then presented the prize for Best Documentary Film, awarded to Kite Zo A (Leave the bones) by Kaveh Nabatian, a sensory portrait of voodoo rites in Haiti.

    The other documentaries in competition were After the Odyssey the Helen Doyle, Boreal feast by Robert Morin, Engrave the man: focus on Pierre Hébert of Loïc Darses and The days of Geneviève Dulude-De Celles.

    Invited to present the main acting awards, Marc Labrèche first delivered a delicious conference on the profession of actor, retracing its history from 325 BC to 325 BC.     Part of the distribution of Our sisters-in-law presented one of the most coveted prizes of the evening, that of Best Direction, to Monia Chokri for Simple like Sylvain. Absent at the gala, the filmmaker thanked her through a video. Thank you, I am very moved by this award. I didn’t think I would do this job 15 years ago, for me being a director was like being an astronaut, it was inaccessibleshe explained.

    Believe in your dreams. There weren’t many female directors when I was growing up. I encourage all young girls to do this job and to take a feminist look at the world.

    Midway through, time stood still for a vibrant tribute to Denis Villeneuve, a moment of emotion that almost made host Phil Roy lose his Latin. A poignant video was released, bringing together a ton of testimonies from his family and personalities from here and elsewhere.

    After a short comedy sketch involving physicality presented by Pier-Luc Funk and Phil Roy, the evening continued with the presentation of the Iris Prize for Best Screenplay by the Minister of Culture and Communications, Mathieu Lacombe. Ariane Louis-Seize and Christine Doyon won the trophy together, the first of the evening for Humanist vampire seeking consenting suicide.
