Eve Systems first announced plans for an Android app at IFA 2022. Last week, after more than two years of waiting and makeshift solutions through Samsung SmartThings, the smart home company announced launched the Eve for Matter app on the Google Play Store. But in a curious twist, users of Eve gadgets on Android who expected the new application to bring parity between Android and iOS in terms of accessibility to personalized functions still have to wait a little.
Eve touts its Android app as the key to unlocking the full potential of Eve Thermo – the company’s smart radiator thermostat and the only device supported by the app. Android users can use the app to add this gadget to Google Home and from there link it to any other smart home platform. Currently no other Eve devices are supported.
In some ways, this feels like a downgrade since Android users already enjoy multi-device support thanks to Eve’s integrations with SmartThings and Alexa. However, these apps do not offer features such as automated scheduling, which are not supported by Matter. Matter is still required to link Eve Thermo to Google Home on the Eve app, but these additional features are only accessible through the Eve app. However, iOS users can enjoy a wider range of personalized functions from several Eve smart home devices.
-Current Eve Thermo users need to update their devices to work with Matter, but the company has also launched a new version of the Eve Thermo for €79.95 that comes equipped with Matter compatibility -over-Thread right out of the box. Buy it with a 15% discount on Amazon.
