After months of famine, the Yellows found victory again at Beaujoire. And what's more in the Breton derby! The Nantes residents narrowly won at the very end of the match this Sunday evening against Stade Rennais (1-0), thanks to a goal from Nigerian Moses Simon in the 89th minute of play. A little gem of realism and virtuosity on the left side in the area and a shot which ends in the top corner, after having reviewed several Rennes defenders.
A meeting lacking in opportunities
A goal which delivers a Beaujoire in turmoil, and which was just waiting for that. It must be said that the public has not had much to sink their teeth into before, in a meeting with few opportunities. The Nantais were the most enterprising against weak Rennes, but did not succeed in forcing the decision. Rennais reduced to ten just before half-time on a very (too) strong tackle from Mikayil Faye. No discussion possible, the Rouge et Noir takes a direct red.
The Nantes residents therefore believed they were on the right track with an individual exploit from Moses Simon at the very end of the match. But definitely, nothing is ever normal with the Canaries. Reduced to ten against eleven, on a corner at the very end of the game, the Rennais thought they would equalize after a completely missed punch from Patrik Carlgren, the canary goalkeeper. A goal finally refused for a handball from Christopher Wooh within six meters, before pushing the ball into the goal. Lunar scenario, Nantes still leads.
A lunar scenario
And Nantes will end up holding on despite this great scare until the end of the match. Success in a Beaujoire which roars with pleasure, the second victory only in 2024 for FC Nantes in his garden. But certainly, it does a lot of good for the heads and allows us to get out of the red zone, before the trip to Brest next Sunday.
