On the night of December 6 to 7, 2024, an explosion destroyed an ATM in Rossens, in the canton of Fribourg. The perpetrators, still unidentified, fled in an unknown direction. The cantonal police are calling for witnesses.
The alert was given at 2:55 a.m. by the Cantonal Police Engagement and Alarm Center. Patrols dispatched to the scene confirmed the explosion of an ATM and noted the suspects had fled, potentially in a dark car, according to the cantonal police press release.
A major investigation
A major search system was immediately deployed, involving Friborg forces as well as the cantonal police of Vaud and Bern. Despite these efforts, the perpetrators have not yet been located. The engagement of an inspector from the Judicial Identification Commission was requested, while the ENDEX group (neutralization, removal, destruction of explosives) of the Vaud cantonal police was requested in order to secure the premises and establish the origin of the explosion.
In addition, specialists from fedpol and the Zurich Forensic Institute (FOR) provided their expertise to identify the origin of the explosion. Investigations are ongoing. At this stage, only material damage has been reported. In accordance with its powers, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened criminal proceedings.
