By implementing solidarity pricing, Nantes allows the poorest households to pay less for their parking. Up to 90% reduction is granted to them.
Paying for your parking using your income is possible in certain French cities. This is the case in Chambéry (Savoie), in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) or even in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), where this solidarity pricing has been in place for a year, reports

Up to 90% off full price
In Nantes, parking costs 180 euros for residents per year, at full price. The socialist municipality has decided to grant a reduction of up to 90% for the most modest households.
Thus, a mother interviewed told our colleagues that she pays 18 euros per year for her car, and the same amount for that of her partner. Which amounts to less than 5 cents per day, for each vehicle. An affordable price for this family who lives in social housing.
Increase the rotation of parked vehicles
The City of Nantes has 20,000 subscribers. Of this number, a quarter benefit from a special rate for parking. In the town, where a million cars circulate every day, the number of paid spaces has doubled in a few years.
This measure aims to
“facilitate parking for residents and encourage visitors to park outside, without penalizing”

“We are rather in an incentive and positive policy, hence the solidarity pricing. »
An initiative that other cities could take inspiration from.
